interim report on real world driving testing for aaa released


March 2017

The Automobile Association of Australia has released ABMARC's interim report on the performance of a number of popular vehicle types. Real world testing was conducted generally in line with the new European test requirements (which will apply from Euro 6c). The official tests were modified slightly to account for different speed limits in Australia (lower highway speeds, higher urban speeds), for example. Some of the results were quite different from the laboratory test values, with a number of vehicles displaying significant variations in fuel efficiency and / or emissions on this test.

Analysis of the new light vehicle fleet


january 2017

The Department of Infrastructure and Regional Development commissioned ABMARC to model the future economic impact of mandatory CO2 standards on emissions from the new Australian light vehicle fleet. The report informs the proposed RIS.

Vehicle activity modelling



The Department of the Environment and Resources comissioned ABMARC to provide a technology assessment and activity modelling for all modes of transport (rail, on-road, aviation, marine) of the Australian passenger and freight task. We also modelled future emissions based on a high technology uptake scenario.


Outputs from this modelling have been incorporated into Australia's Emissions Projections 2016.

ABMARC Tests Emissions and fuel economy on Locomotives


March 2016

The NSW Environment Protection Authority (EPA) commissioned ABMARC to determine the baseline fuel efficiency and emissions of a locomotive. The project informs the EPA's policy development to control and reduce emissions from diesel non-road and marine sectors and included comprehensive testing, review of global regulation and reporting.

ABMARC has Australia's only Portable Emissions Measurement System, or PEMS, which complies with US EPA and European Commission standards. PEMS provides laboratory accuracy and repeatability to the measurement of particulates, gaseous emissions and fuel consumption from engines in the field. PEMS can measure diesel, petrol, natural gas and LPG engines in-field and on-road.


Our 'best in industry reports', including the Powertrain Series on alternative fuels and technologies, are used across industry, government and research institutes to develop planning and policy strategies. Capability includes consumer insights, market research, economic modelling, competitor or technology benchmarking and the development of technical marketing material.

Our fleet engineering services provide customers, including OEMS, with detailed analytics from test and telematics data to be used for; engineering approvals or certification, vehicle verification, fleet improvements, new vehicle or technology benchmarking and forensic engineering to determine things gone wrong (TGW) for safety or warranty purposes.
